It’s not a surprise that advertisers today want to market to college students on their phones. A common way to do this is through in-app advertising or bite-sized content creation that can be seen on these popular platforms. 90% of college kids use social media, according to a recent 2015 Pew Research Center study. It’s probably even higher. To put this percentage in perspective, only 12% of students were using social media back in 2005. That’s a 78% increase! This increase has been due to the ubiquitousness of cell phones among 18-24 year-olds, cheaper data plans, and an explosion of free apps. You can expect the average student to have about 30+ apps on their phone right now.
So what apps should a marketer consider when advertising to college students? We discussed what apps were popular with our college student research panel and learned that these apps were the most common.
